DPH: Don't Go in Water by Topaz Jetty

A water sample taken Monday from the ocean on the north side of the Topaz jetty had too much bacteria, according to the county Department of Public Health.

Beachgoers who are planning to head to a spot on the sand near the Topaz jetty in Redondo Beach for the Fourth of July might want to reconsider.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, samples taken from the water on the north side of the jetty Monday did not meet state standards for ocean-water bacteria.

As a result, swimmers should stay out of the water for 50 yards on both sides of the jetty, the DPH said.
