DUI Checkpoint Set for 7 p.m. Friday
Redondo Beach police will set up a DUI and driver's license checkpoint from 7 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday.

A DUI and driver's license checkpoint will be set up somewhere within Redondo Beach city limits tonight, according to a news release from the Redondo Beach Police Department.
The checkpoint will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 2 a.m. Saturday.
Motorists caught driving impaired face jail time, license suspension, increased insurance premiums, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses possibly exceeding $10,000, police said.

In the statement, Traffic Unit Investigator Jeff Mendence said that 78 motorists driving under the influence have injured 117 people in Redondo Beach over the past three years.
The police department also asks anyone who spots someone who could be driving under the influence to call 911.

This will be the fourth DUI checkpoint in Redondo this year. According to the police department, well-publicized checkpoints conducted often enough correlate with an approximately 20 percent decrease in the number of alcohol-involved crashes.
