DUI Checkpoint Set for Friday

The Redondo Beach Police Department will conduct a DUI and driver's license checkpoint from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.

The will set up a DUI and driver's license checkpoint somewhere in the city from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release Investigator Jeff Mendence.

Officers from the Traffic Unit will be checking for valid driver's licenses and making sure nobody is driving under the influence of alcohol.

Motorists caught driving impaired will face jail, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, Mendence said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that checkpoints are the most effective of all DUI enforcement strategies, and they yield $6 in savings for everyone $1 spent.
