Salmonella is an organism that can cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the release. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The organism can affect animals consuming the product as well as humans who handle contaminated products without thoroughly washing their hands.
