Huey Top Fundraiser in May, June

Despite raising more money during the latest campaign finance reporting period from May 20 to June 30, Republican candidate for California's new 66th Assembly District Craig Huey has less cash on hand than his Democratic counterpart, Al Muratsuchi, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday.

Huey also reported about $14,000 more in campaign expenditures than Muratsuchi.

Huey and Muratsuchi were the top-two vote-getters in the June primary for the State Assembly seat—which includes the Palos Verdes Peninsula, the Beach Cities and Torrance, among other areas—beating out Republican Nathan Mintz.

Huey, who raised $226,268.58 during the latest reporting period, has raised a total of $462,474.83 since Jan. 1. Since Jan. 1, he's spent $367,414.27 on his campaign, including $93,969.12 during the reporting period.

As of Tuesday, Huey's campaign had $194,666.90 in cash on hand.

Muratsuchi, on the other hand, raised $116,595 in the most recent reporting period, and a total of $411,327.55 since Jan. 1. He spent $77,456.35 during the most recent reporting period, and a total of 167,968.80 since Jan. 1.

Muratsuchi's campaign had $311,119.04 cash on hand as of Tuesday.

Huey, a resident of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and a Torrance businessman, spent a large amount of money during the primary campaign against Mintz. Muratsuchi, a Torrance school board member, was the only Democrat in the three-way primary race, and thus did not campaign heavily.

In the 66th Assembly District created last year, Democrats hold a three-point voter registration advantage.
