Letter: Park Needs Band Shell, Not Patio
Instead of a "patio with a pergola design," the Leadership Redondo Class of 2010 should replace the old Veterans Park band shell with another band shell, says Andrea Schotts.

Editor's note: This letter was sent in response to the article , published March 22.
The design for a patio looks just like this design (for a pergola structure at ). The replacement cost for a real band shell is how much? The cost of this design is overpriced and going up.
The idea that public funds and private funds will be used for this city park project is fine. To make this project legal, the Leadership class/ and the city needs to make all donors names public. This is to make sure that there are no conflicting interests for such a public project.

I was also hoping for a real band shell. Please take a look around our country at other cities that are replacing, upgrading their band shells. There are many great designs out there. What we are seeing for the money is a patio covering only. We need something better than that.
I did at one point suggest that the Leadership Classes of 2010 and 2011 work on this project together to make a much better outcome! I think those who worked on the Memorial did a wonderful job.

I hope to see this project become much more than a patio with a pergola design. It seems that all the fuss is about seeing the ocean... we have many open areas now. We really need a band shell design. Thank you!
Respectfully,
Andrea Schotts
