Sunshine Week kicks off in March. In preparation, we're encouraging our readers to nominate area open-government activists for the Sunshine Week Local Heroes contest.

Do you know people in Redondo Beach who have championed local government transparency? Redondo Beach Patch is participating in Sunshine Week 2012—which begins on March 11—by promoting the Sunshine Week Local Heroes contest. Patch also be talking up, covering and conversing with readers about open government and freedom of information on the site during that week, so stay tuned.
Sunshine Week is a national initiative designed to highlight the importance of open government and the freedom information.
We're kicking off that conversation off a little early with a call to action—we want you to nominate local open government champions who have played a significant role fighting for local government transparency.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, so put this on your "Must Do" list now. The winner will be honored in Washington. We'll share the winners with you.
