Fans of Tony's caused a stir in May when it seemed as though the City Council would not extend the business' lease on the pier. The restaurant's lease expires in February 2012, and Tony's management feared it would be forced to go on a month-to-month lease.
Dozens of supporters attended a May 17 City Council meeting to express their support for renewing the restaurant's lease.
In his Facebook post, Trutanich thanked people for their support of the business and noted that city officials have been listening to fans' pleas.
"I personally believe that [City Manager] Bill Workman has Old Tony's best interest at heart," Trutanich said. "He has been available at an hour's notice to meet with myself to discuss the future of Old Tony's and has really kept us in the loop in regards to the city's progress in respect to their overall plans for the pier and harbor area."
