Public Hearing Scheduled for Fee Increases

The Redondo Beach City Council will decide whether to increase fees for use of city facilities, as well as those for parking meter permits.

The Redondo Beach City Council will hold a public hearing and a vote Tuesday whether to raise fees for multiple city facilities and parking meter permits, among others, according to a notice posted on the city's website.

Under the proposed fee adjustments, which are part of the city's proposed budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, fees for the use of Aviation Park and Wilderness Park facilities would increase. The new budget would also institute fees to rent the Anderson and Perry Park senior centers.

Seaside Lagoon's group, season pass, party rental and school rates would also increase. (See attached .pdf for details on the rate increases.)

Redondo Beach parking meter permits, which cost $80 annually, would cost $95 under the new budget. This fee increase would increase city revenues by $24,000 annually.

Additionally, the is raising the charge for a clearance letter with a notarized signature by $2 for a total of $43.

Beekeeping permits, which were given the go-ahead by the council earlier this month, would cost $45 each. The city expects to issue two beekeeping permits annually, according to documentation from the police department.

"The modified user fees are proposed to ensure that general taxes are not used to subsidize the fees for service programs," the city said in the notice online. "The city consistently looks for ways to trim costs, but also must calculate fee adjustments to adequately cover the cost of services."

The public hearing will take place during Tuesday's city council meeting at , located at 415 Diamond St. Open session starts at 6 p.m.
