Redondo Ranks 6th in Water Challenge
Redondo Beach rises to sixth place in the Wyland Foundation's Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation.

Redondo Beach has claimed the No. 6 spot in the west region of cities with populations from 30,001-100,000 in the Wyland Foundation's National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation.
Newport Beach, Calif.; Bremerton, Wash.; Montrose, Colo.; Aliso Viejo, Calif.; and Yorba Linda, Calif. all rank ahead of Redondo in the category. Placentia, Calif.; Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Lacey, Wash.; and Monrovia, Calif. round out the rest of the top 10. (See the complete list in order below.)

The challenge, started by renowned marine artist Wyland, asks residents to take a pledge to conserve water and reduce waste throughout the month of April.

People who live in the cities that ultimately win the challenge for their category will be eligible to win a Toyota Prius C Hybrid, a Rain Bird custom-designed sprinkler system, a Sterling water-saving toilet, a Waterpik Eco-Flow shower head or a Lowe's gift card.
The city with the highest percentage of residents who take the pledge wins its division. Divisions are based on geography—West, Midwest, South and Northeast—and population.

Last year, in its inaugural year of participation in the challenge, Redondo claimed the No. 2 spot overall. Neighboring city Hermosa Beach won the challenge, which at that point was only open to cities in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
