Redondo Schools on CBEE's Honor Roll
Eight schools in Redondo Beach are recognized as Honor Roll Schools by California Business for Education Excellence.

Eight schools in the were selected as 2011 Honor Roll Schools by California Business for Education Excellence, the district said in a news release Monday.
was deemed a SBEE Star School, defined as a school with "socio-economically disadvantaged students that have shown a significant increase in grade-level proficiency over time," according to the news release. , , , , and elementary schools, as well as , were recognized as CBEE Scholar Schools, which show significant levels of academic achievement but don't have a significant percentage of socio-economically disadvantaged students.
Of the 1,614 schools recognized in the CBEE's Honor Roll, 527 are Star Schools and 1,087 are Scholar Schools.

"We are proud to be recognized by California’s business community for our eight Honor Roll schools," said RBUSD Superintendent Dr. Steven Keller said in the statement. "Our teachers and administrators work tirelessly to keep the focus on high expectations and academic achievement for all students. The continued success of our students is what keeps us motivated."
According to the news release, Honor Roll schools demonstrate "consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and reduction in achievement gaps among student populations." High schools are also evaluated on college readiness criteria.

"These schools are the bright spots of excellence in efforts to raise student academic achievement and close persistent achievement gaps," CBEE President Jim Lanich said in the statement. "By highlighting them, recognizing their achievement and giving them a voice we hope other schools can learn from them and replicate their proven practices throughout the state."
In 2010, Beryl Heights, Birney, Jefferson and Tulita elementary schools were deemed Scholar Schools by the CBEE. Alta Vista, Beryl Heights, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison and Tulita were recognized as Scholar Schools in 2009.
This is the first time the CBEE has recognized Redondo Union and Washington. Jefferson has been recognized every year since 2005, when the list was introduced.
