Redondo Sees Increase in Major Crime
The 5.3 percent increase in major crime in Redondo Beach stems from a 44 percent jump in the number of burglaries, according to data from the California Crime Index.

Though major crime in the South Bay and Harbor Area dropped 2.4 percent overall between 2010 and 2011, Redondo Beach saw a 5.3 percent increase overall, according to an analysis of the California Crime Index from the Daily Breeze.
Homicides decreased 100 percent, from one in 2010 to none in 2011, but rapes increased 200 percent, from one in 2010 to three in 2011. Robberies, assaults and auto theft were down 21 percent, 22 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
Burglaries were the main reason for Redondo's increase in major crime. Between 2010 and 2011, the city saw burglaries jump about 44 percent, from 216 in 2010 to 310 in 2011.
