Redondo Woman Finishes 3rd in 5K

Village Runner hosts the 19th annual Fourth of July 5K Community Run and Walk.

More than 2,400 participants ranging in age from 3 to 88 years old showed up for the 19th annual Village Runner on a foggy Wednesday morning in South Redondo Beach.

Redondo Beach resident Nathalie Higley finished third place overall in the race's women's division.

With a time of 17:33.45, Higley finished less than a minute behind the overall first-place winner in the women's division. Tanya Zeferjahn, 28, of San Clemente, Calif., finished first in the women's division and 27th overall with a time of 16:48.57, while Juliane Masciana, 27, of Austin, Texas, finished second in the women's division and 36th overall with a time of 17:15:15.

In the men's division, Port Hueneme, Calif. resident Aaron Sharp, 32, finished first with a time of 14:45.43; Pasadena resident Jacques Sallberg, 37, finished second with a time of 15:01.24; and Torrance resident David Cardona, 20, finished third with a time of 15:17.93.

The race began in front of in Riviera Village. Runners headed northbound on South Catalina Avenue, west on Avenue I, north on the Esplanade and onto South Catalina Avenue until Torrance Boulevard. Participants then retraced their steps back to Village Runner.
