Subject of Bike Chase Gets 60 Days in Jail

Morgan Walker was arrested after police Chief Joe Leonardi hopped on Walker's bicycle and chased him.

The transient who led Redondo Beach Police Chief Joe Leonardi on a chase  pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 60 days in jail Monday, Daily Breeze crime reporter Larry Altman reported on his Crime & Courts blog.

Morgan Wayne Walker, 36, was arrested July 5 after a brief pursuit that involved Leonardi hopping on Walker's abandoned bicycle.

After Walker was taken into custody by another officer, Leonardi retraced his steps and found a class ring from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo that had been reported stolen from a residence in Hermosa Beach, police said.

In addition to the 60 days he will serve in county jail, Walker will serve three years' probation, according to City Prosecutor Melanie Chavira.
