Suspect Sprints Into Ocean To Escape Police In Redondo Beach: Report
Officers responding to a disturbance call early Monday morning chased after a man as he jumped into the Pacific Ocean.
REDONDO BEACH, CA — Redondo Beach police pursued a man into the Pacific Ocean early Monday morning, according to reports.
The Redondo Beach Police Department told KTLA that officers responded to a disturbance call near South Catalina Avenue and Avenue I at about 12:01 a.m. When the police arrived, a witness pointed out a man believed to be the suspect.
After police attempted to contact the man, he fled on foot toward the beach, officers said. Police requested assistance from the Redondo Beach Fire Department and Harbor Patrol when the man reached the ocean.

Rescue teams brought the man, who had gone about 100 feet into the ocean, out of the water and took him to a nearby hospital for a mental evaluation.
Police told KTLA that no victim came forward and no crime was reported.
