Suspect in Stolen Truck in Custody After Leading Police on Chase in Redondo Beach

Randy Walker, 30, of Torrance, was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading police, burglary and outstanding warrants, police said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA - A man accused of leading Redondo Beach police on a brief chase in a stolen pickup truck was taken into custody Tuesday after crashing the vehicle and trying to hide in a backyard.

Police called to the area of Catalina Avenue and Sapphire Street at 12:29 a.m. quickly located the truck and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off.

The truck crashed in the area of Prospect Avenue and Avenue C and the driver fled, according to Sgt. Stephen Sprengel. With the aid of dogs and a helicopter, police found the suspect hiding in a backyard and determined the pickup had been stolen, he said.

Randy Walker, 30, of Torrance, was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading police, burglary and outstanding warrants, with bail set at $220,000, the sergeant said.
