Trial Delayed for RUHS Sex Assault Suspect

Sylvester Gene Rawls, who is accused of sexually assaulting a Redondo Union High School student in 2003, will stand trial in February.

The trial date for Sylvester Gene Rawls, who was charged last year in the sexual assault of a student in 2003, was moved Tuesday to somewhere around Feb. 1, according to a tweet from Daily Breeze reporter Larry Altman.

The trial was originally scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Rawls is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old Redondo Union student in a bathroom at the high school. Police identified him as a suspect after matching DNA found at the crime scene with a sample Rawls gave after he was convicted of manufacturing PCP.
