Watch for July 4th Road Closures

The Redondo Beach Police Department and Beach Cities Transit warn of road closures and route changes due to Independence Day events.

With its and the at Seaside Lagoon, Redondo Beach will be a traffic hotspot Wednesday morning and evening.

Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., the will close the following streets to vehicle traffic for the 5K run:

  • 800 block of South Elena Avenue
  • 300, 1700 and 1800 blocks of South Catalina Avenue
  • 100 block of Avenue I
  • 100-1600 blocks of the Esplanade

Additionally, Beach Cities Transit buses will be detoured from 5:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. around the area surrounding the Redondo Beach Pier and along Catalina Avenue:

  • Right on Broadway

  • Right on Pacific Coast Highway
  • Right on Torrance Boulevard and stop at the Torrance Transit stop

LINE 104
Eastbound:

  • Start route on Torrance Boulevard at Pacific Coast Highway using Torrance Transit stop
  • Right on Broadway
  • Right on Garnet Street
  • Right on Pacific Coast Highway
  • Right on Palos Verdes Boulevard
  • Resume regular route

Westbound:

  • From Palos Verdes Boulevard

Transit riders should expect delays throughout the morning.

The fireworks celebration at will also significantly impact traffic, according to police Officer Jeff Mendence. The following roads in South Redondo Beach will be closed or severely congested:

  • Portofino Way (partial closure)
  • 200-300 blocks of Pacific Avenue (closed)
  • 100-1200 blocks of North Catalina Avenue (partial closure)
  • 100-1600 blocks of South Catalina Avenue (partial closure)
  • 100-1300 blocks of Beryl Street (partial closure)
  • 100-1000 Torrance Boulevard (no left or right turns from Torrance Boulevard will be allowed)
  • Pacific Coast Highway from 190th Street to Knob Hill Avenue (partial closure at Torrance Boulevard)

"Nonessential vehicle traffic is not recommended, as long delays are expected while driving in these areas during the times indicated," Mendence said.

Additionally, expect traffic along the Esplanade and Torrance Beach on Wednesday evening. The fireworks display off Torrance Beach will likely tie up traffic along Palos Verdes Boulevard and Paseo de la Playa.
