Water Challenge Kicks off Earth Month

Redondo Beach residents are encouraged to pledge to conserve water and reduce waste during the monthlong Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation.

Last year, marine artist Wyland and Mayor Mike Gin challenged Redondo Beach residents to think "green" during a monthlong competition that pitted the city against others in the Southland.

This year, Wyland's Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation has gone national. From Friday through April 30, people across the United States are encouraged to log onto mywaterpledge.com and take a pledge to conserve water and reduce waste.

The city with the highest percentage of residents who complete the pledge wins the challenge. Participants from that city are entered to win prizes like a new Toyota Prius C Hybrid, Rain Bird custom-designed sprinkler systems, Sterling water-saving toilets, Waterpik Eco-Flow shower heads and Lowe's gift cards.
