Water Warning Issued for Beach South of Pier

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health releases its monthly letter grades for county beaches.

Beachgoers should avoid going into the water between the Redondo Beach Pier and 100 yards south of the pier because bacterial levels in a water quality sample exceeded state standards, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

According to beach grades and warnings posted on the department's website Thursday afternoon, the beach 50 yards south of the pier received a C grade.

The beach 50 yards north of the Herondo storm drain, the beach on north side of the Topaz Jetty, and Torrance Beach in front of the Avenue I storm drain all received B grades.

The only beach in Redondo to receive an A was the beach in front of the Herondo storm drain, according to the department.

The 30-day grades are a reflection of the average grade of samples taken over the past month. With the exception of the area 50 yards south of the pier, all beaches met state standards for water quality.
