CZI Launches Fund For Peninsula Charities

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announce a community fund for local charities and schools.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- Philanthropists Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announced this week a new community fund for nonprofits and schools in the Bay Area.

The fund, created under the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, aims to improve the lives of children. Community organizations and schools in Redwood City, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks and Belle Haven are encouraged to apply for the fund.

The fund will award grants between $25,000 and $100,000 to programs focused on "The fund will award grants between $25,000 and $100,000 to programs focused on education," according to the initiative's website.

The initiative, created by the Facebook founder and his wife, was launched in December 2015 and has an overall goal of "advancing human potential and promoting equal opportunity."
