Half-Pound Of Meth Intercepted At Redwood City Jail

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A South Bay woman was arrested Tuesday after she was found to be in possession of more than a half-pound of methamphetamine at a jail while attempting to visit an inmate, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Leslie Romero-Silva, 23 of Santa Clara, was arrested on suspicion of knowingly bringing or sending controlled substances into a jail or prison, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was being held on $50,000 bail as of Wednesday night.

Romero-Silva entered the Maguire Correctional Facility at approximately 7 p.m., walking past several posted signs indicating the advisement of California Penal Code 4573 that it is a criminal act to bring a controlled substance into a California jail, the Sheriff’s Office said.

She was found to be in possession of nine ounces of methamphetamine, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“The Sheriff’s Office takes pride in providing a safe environment for the San Mateo County Community, including those in our custody.”
