Peninsula Clean Energy Inks Battery Storage Deal
Peninsula Clean Energy has signed two agreements this year to expand battery storage that will extend solar power availability after sunset.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Peninsula Clean Energy has signed a 15-year deal securing 45 megawatts of battery storage to support its mission of providing renewable energy to more than 800,000 customers around the clock.
The utility will receive the added capacity from a lithium ion storage project being developed near Barstow, which is set to be up and running by next summer.
"Our priority is securing sufficient, low-cost, clean sources of power, while also ensuring reliability for our customers," said Jan Pepper, Peninsula Clean Energy CEO. "Battery storage is a critical component of our strategy and allows us to take the lead among all utilities in demonstrating it is possible to provide hourly renewable energy in a cost-effective way."

This week's battery storage deal is the utility's second this year, following a recently approved 50-megawatt agreement with a facility in Riverside County. The two projects will help Peninsula Clean Energy reach its goal of tapping into solar energy in the evening and overnight hours.
Peninsula Clean Energy is one of the nation's first agencies to tap expanded federal incentives for clean energy and officials say customers continue to pay less for power than customers utilizing standard PG&E services.
