Redwood City Could Get Outdoor, Year-Round Public Pool: Report

The Chronicle reports that the pool is part of a new facility in Cañada College called the Kinesiology and Wellness Building.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City could finally be getting an outdoor, year-round public swimming pool, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The pool is part of a new facility in Cañada College called the Kinesiology and Wellness Building, which replaces a 53-year-old gymnasium. The new fitness center opened to students earlier this month and is expected to be open to the public later this year, the Chronicle reported.

Funded by Measure H, the $120 million project is 116,000 square feet and officials told the Chronicle that they see public access to the center as a health club concept, similar to the San Mateo Athletic Club.

Redwood City currently doesn’t have an outdoor, year-round public pool, Eric Newby, recreation manager for sports and aquatics told the Chronicle.

The facility was described by the Chronicle as an “angular, futuristic fitness center that hovers like a massive drone above Interstate 280.”
