Redwood City Library Breaks Ground On Community Workspace
The space is expected to open in October and is intended to help provide access to technology for those who may not have access.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Redwood City Public Library broke ground Tuesday on its Makerspace, a community workspace intended to help provide access to technology for those who may not have access.
The Library Makerspace Project received a $270,000 grant that was approved by the city council in late July. The library’s former computer lab will be transformed into the new space. A grand opening is projected for October.
The space will include technology tools such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, digital design and modeling software and opportunities to learn about robotics and electronics. It will also have tools to make items like bags, jewelry, scrapbooks and knitting. Shared collaboration spaces will allow for workshop tables, large screen monitors and a videoconferencing and audio recording space.
