REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Redwood City mother faces felony charges after investigators allege she threatened him with a knife, according to police.

Officers were called to an apartment on Gordon Street to investigate reports of a family disturbance shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A 13-year-old boy told police his mother had pointed a knife at his neck during an argument before he ran from the home and called 911.

After ensuring the boy's safety, officers went to the apartment, and police said the woman refused to open the door. Crisis negotiators responded to the scene and continued efforts to get the woman to voluntarily leave the home.

Police identified the suspect Thursday as Latosha Smith and said her son was handed over to relatives.
