Redwood City Records Highest Rainfall Total On Peninsula: NWS
Redwood City had the highest amount of rain in the 48-hour period from Wednesday through Friday, comparable to totals in the East Bay.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City recorded 1.16 inches of rain in the 48-hour span between 10 a.m. Wednesday 10 a.m. Friday, the highest recorded on the Peninsula and among the highest in the entire Bay Area, according to National Weather Service raw totals.
By contrast, San Jose only recorded 0.24 inches. San Francisco’s Duboce Triangle recorded 0.36 inches, while SFO recorded 0.51. The next highest on the Peninsula was Edgewood Park, near I-280, with 0.94 inches.
The highest totals were recorded in the Santa Cruz Mountains: Mt. Madonna saw 1.85 inches, followed by Loma Prieta (1.81), Uvas Canyon (1.73), and Scotts Creek. The East Bay saw totals comparable to Redwood City, ranging from 0.7 in Tilden Park to 1.31 in Las Trampas.

The National Weather Service tweeted that Livermore Airport received normal rainfall for the month of April. Hail was also reported in Livermore and the East Bay. An NWS tweet reported that the rainfall significantly reduced fire danger in the North Bay. Still, experts say it is not enough to alleviate the area’s long standing drought.
