SamTrans Announces Art Contest Winners

Young artists from Redwood City took a SamTrans art competition by storm, by illustrating some unique perspectives of public transit.

Students from all over San Mateo County, between first and sixth grade, entered a competition that asked students to paint a “Window To Your City.”  Students interpreted that in different ways.

Thrid grader Keya Arora painted a bus waiting for geese to cross the road.

“I live in Redwood Shores so I see this happen all the time,” Arora said.

More than 400 students entered the competition according to SamTrans spokesperson Christine Dunn. The winers will have their art featured inside SamTrans buses and on the outside of a bus called the Art Bus, which will be cruising around for a year. 

Winners also received a summer pass to ride, a framed copy of the adcard that showcases their work, along with a certificate. This is the ninth year that SamTrans worked with the San Mateo County Office of Education to host the competition.

The winners are: 

Tymofiy Kornyeyev, first grader at Sandpiper Elementary in Redwood City
 
Lukas Wiggers, second grader at Central Elementary in Belmont
 
Keya Arora, third grader at Sandpiper Elementary in Redwood City

Taylor Gee, fourth grader at Sandpiper Elementary in Redwood City
 
Adrienne Evans, fifth grader at North Star Academy in Redwood City

Alina Kalmeyer, sixth grader at Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park
