REDWOOD CITY, CA — The California Highway Patrol will run a sobriety checkpoint Friday evening in the Redwood City area, where officers will "aggressively seek out and remove impaired drivers from the road," the agency announced Wednesday.

CHP officers trained in how to detect alcohol or drug impairment will staff the checkpoint from 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., at a yet-to-be-named location.

"Every year, members of our community are injured or killed o local roadways by impaired drivers," the CHP wrote in a news release. "It is the Department's goal to use this enforcement tool to assist with the reduction of injury and fatal collisions that are caused by impaired drivers."
