Toxic Chemical Smell Evacuates Edison Technology Park

Smells of environmental project lead to penalties for research team.

A toxic smell of chemicals led to the evacuation of companies in the Edison Technology Park in North Fair Oaks Wednesday morning.

Ron Newdoll, Edison Technology Park owner, said the cause of it came from a company called Immune Path.

“Police drove by and smelled something coming out of the back of a pick up parked outside,” Newdoll told Patch. He said the smell was clearly chemical, although he was uncertain what exactly it was. Police called the county’s hazardous material team, who responded at about 3 a.m.

Menlo Park Fire Protection District and the county’s haz mat team responded.

“They found container that had been heated up by the tenant who was working on a gulf reclamation thing,” Newdoll said, noting that they cleaned the area and shut down the project.

Newdoll said the company was doing research in violation of its agreement with him and would be facing penalties in the near future.

Edison Technology Park is a commercial real estate development that contains four office buildings that have traditionally housed high tech companies, research and development firms, and startup incubators. It is located at 3515 Edison Way in Menlo Park, Califorina.
