Officer, Woman Injured During Incident Near North Bay Grocery Store
Sponge rounds were used to take a woman into custody after two hours of de-escalation techniques were unsuccessful, police said.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety provided details about police activity Monday that prompted an alert to the community.
The incident started around 1:40 p.m. Monday when officers were dispatched to a report of a person with a gun and knives behind a grocery store at 605 Rohnert Park Expressway, the Rohnert Park DPS said in a news release Tuesday morning.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who appeared to have a handgun and knives. She did not follow officers' commands; instead, she walked into the Copeland Creek ravine just west of the Copeland Creek Trail, police said.

At this time, the Rohnert Park DPS sent out a Nixle alert about the police activity and instructed the public to avoid an area of the 600 block of Rohnert Park Expressway where a grocery store and pizza place are located.
After two hours of utilizing de-escalation techniques, officers decided they needed to act quickly to prevent any harm to the woman or themselves, the Rohnert Park DPS said. Officers struck the woman with two 40-mm sponge rounds, then took her into custody without further incident.

The woman, later identified as Danielle Lormer, 41, of Rohnert Park, was found with two knives and an imitation handgun that was later determined to be a BB gun, police said.
At 3:58 p.m., the Rohnert DPS sent out a follow-up Nixle alert stating the police activity had concluded.
Lormer and an officer were taken to area hospitals; Lormer for treatment of bruising suffered from the sponge rounds and the officer for treatment of a bite by a police dog during the incident.
Once she was released from the hospital, Lormer was taken to Sonoma County jail and booked on suspicion of violation of probation, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and delaying or obstructing a peace officer. She remained in custody Tuesday without bail and with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The Rohnert Park DPS received assistance during the incident from neighboring law enforcement agencies including the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Rosa Police Department.
