View Of Sonoma Mountain From RP: Photo Of The Day

Can you see the umbrella tree in the distance?

ROHNERT PARK, CA β€” Patch reader Steve Miller sent in this photo he took Sunday from Snyder Lane near Keiser Avenue in Rohnert Park.

"I like the geometry of the mowed field," Steve wrote in an email to Patch. "Sonoma Mountain is in the distance, and you can see the Umbrella Tree on the north (right) shoulder of the mountain, so this is kind of the reverse of an earlier photo taken from there."

Steve, who moved to Rohnert Park within the last year but has lived in Sonoma County for 15 years, has already hiked past the "umbrella tree" many a time and believes it is "just a tree that maybe once was umbrella-shaped."

"There's a trail to it from the new North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park (fabulous park!)" he wrote. "The trail is about a mile each way, pretty easy, though a bit of a climb."
