Biden Vacations At CA Billionaire's Ritzy Lake Tahoe Mansion

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA — President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, his son Hunter, and other family members are spending the week in Lake Tahoe, renting a home owned by billionaire and former Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer. However, the scenic family vacation was not without controversy, which culminated in a code enforcement investigation.

According to SF Gate, the Bidens are staying in a 4,000-square-foot home in Glenbrook, an exclusive community on the northeast corner of the lake in Nevada. The Reno Gazette Journal reports the lakefront estate sits in one of the nation's priciest ZIP codes where the median home is valued above $3 million. Steyer purchased his property for $15 million in 2007.

The President's stay at Steyer's property drew complaints that the home was improperly rented, triggering an investigation from code enforcement officials in Douglas County. According to The Record-Courier, illegally renting a vacation home without the proper permits could trigger a $20,000 fine. Ultimately, the newspaper reported, officials could not confirm a code violation.

The President and his wife landed in Reno aboard Air Force One last Friday night, briefly pausing the vacation for a quick trip to survey wildfire damage in Maui before returning to spend the rest of the week at the lake. Biden spoke to reporters after a Pilates class in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday and was photographed leaving mass at Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church in Zephyr Cove.

Biden's weeklong trip has drawn ire from some, including locals who told the Los Angeles Times the lake is already overwhelmed by the influx of summer tourists and their impacts on traffic and the natural environment.

The Bidens are expected to depart the Tahoe area on Saturday.
