STATELINE, NV — Investigators in Douglas County are warning visitors in the Lake Tahoe area to ensure they secure their doors and windows after two unsettling incidents over the long Independence Day weekend.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, women staying at a resort on Elks Point Road in Zephyr Cove woke up to an intruder inside their room and touching their feet in the early morning hours of Sunday and Monday. Police said the prowler quickly left when the women awoke, exiting through a sliding screen door.

"In both cases, the victim's rooms were on the ground floor and it is suspected at this time that the suspect entered the rooms via the unsecured exterior screen door," the sheriff's office wrote. "Residents and guests staying in the Lake Tahoe area are reminded to secure all exterior doors to their homes/rented rooms."
