📰 News we're reading

1. Holiday travelers face flight cancellations at Sacramento International Airport (kcra.com) — If you’re flying out of Sacramento International Airport this holiday week, be prepared for cancellations, long waits, and crowded terminals as some airlines scrub entire days of flights. Stranded travelers are scrambling for options, from driving with strangers to rebooking for tomorrow, and many are finding limited help from customer service on-site.

2. California State Library's effort to preserve state history (kcra.com) — Sacramento County residents once helped pay for the land under today’s State Capitol, and the California State Library in Sacramento still safeguards those early tax records and the county’s first newspaper. From rare plant paintings to a 6‑foot COVID distancing pipe and Steinbeck-related photos, the library’s guarded vault preserves surprising pieces of California and Sacramento history for anyone to explore.

3. CHP, Roseville police issue Silver Alert for man missing since Christmas Eve (sacbee.com) — A statewide Silver Alert now covers Sacramento County as authorities search for 65-year-old Charles Young, last seen Christmas Eve in Roseville and possibly driving a tan 2000 Chevy Silverado. Residents in Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties are urged to watch for his vehicle and call 911 immediately with any sightings to help bring him home safely.

4. Good Samaritan helps rescue family from near-death crash on Highway 50 (kcra.com) — A Sacramento-area family’s Christmas drive on Highway 50 turned terrifying when their SUV spun out and dangled over a steep drop, until a Travis Air Force staff sergeant and other good Samaritans pulled them and their dogs to safety. The dramatic rescue, captured on video and praised by Air Force leadership, underscores how treacherous the Sierra corridor can be during winter travel.

5. Fugitive meth dealer who used NJ casinos in scheme arrested, officials say (palivingnews.com) — A New Jersey fugitive accused of large-scale meth trafficking was recently arrested in Sacramento after nearly four years on the run. U.S. Marshals captured 33-year-old Jordan Ragland here before he was extradited back to New Jersey, where he faces major drug, weapons, and money-laundering charges tied to Atlantic City casino activity.
