Sacramento Water Now Safe to Drink After Contamination Scare

A "Do Not Drink" warning has been lifted.

SACRAMENTO, CA -- The city of Sacramento on Wednesday evening lifted a "Do Not Drink" warning after a contamination scare.

The warning was issued for North Sacramento residents Wednesday morning after residents notified the city of Sacramento's Department of Utilities of discoloration in the water.

"Flushing of fire hydrants in the area has resolved the color issue and the City continues to investigate the possible causes. Laboratory results indicate that water samples are normal," according to a press release issued by the city.

The city stated there is "no further indication of possible contamination and the water is safe to drink" but it will continue to monitor the issue.

Residents who return to their homes and still see discolored water are urged to flush their faucets until the water dissipates. If the color doesn't disappear, residents should call the city at 311 immediately.
