- The Otay-Mesa-Nestor community will receive a $24 million grant for a bridge project. The grant, from the federal Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program, will help make improvements, reduce traffic delays, increase freight transportation and reduce future maintenance costs. Upwards of 38,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily. (City News Service)
- The San Diego police officers’ union is alarmed over the increase in traffic deaths around the City of San Diego. Drivers are more aggressive, resulting in more hit-and-run crashes and fatal traffic collisions. The shortage of police officers, along with cuts to SDPD’s traffic enforcement, makes the problem worse. (FOX 5 San Diego)
- With studies showing a correlation between depression and the use of social media, some school districts joined a federal lawsuit against TikTok, Meta and Snapchat. San Diego school districts, Coronado and Oceanside, want more transparency in the apps’ algorithm process, the ability to shut down Internet access at certain times, and they want additional school funding for alerting students about social media addiction. (NBC San Diego)
- Recent rains created a super bloom of wildflowers around San Diego, and scientists are hoping that this big bloom may boost the local 🐝bee population as well. With more than 600 species of bees, San Diego County is a noted biodiversity hotspot for pollinators, which are necessary for the growth of food crops. 🐝🐝🐝 (NBC San Diego)
