5 San Diego County Residents Charged In Disability Fraud Scheme
All five defendants were arrested and arraigned in court this month.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Five San Diego County residents have been charged with felony counts of insurance fraud for allegedly receiving ill-gotten benefits through dozens of fraudulently submitted insurance documents, it was announced Wednesday.
According to the California Department of Insurance, 63 fraudulent claims documents were submitted for benefits for the long-term disability policy of the mother of defendants Tyler Andrew Liebowitz, 45, of San Diego, and Dean Craig Liebowitz, 52, of Del Mar. The documents allegedly listed the defendants as the mother's caregivers.
However, the Department of Insurance says the defendants attempted to receive payments for times when no caregiver was present. The defendants also allegedly made false statements about the amount of money paid to caregivers and the number of hours worked.
