- The City of San Diego will install electric vehicle chargers at 400 city parking lots at libraries, beaches, parks and recreation centers that will comprise a regional charging network. The city expects the network to be in place within two years and it will help achieve its Climate Action Plan by 2035. A private vendor will have a 10-year contract and will pay the city fees while sharing the revenue produced through the EV chargers. When the contract ends, the city can purchase the stations for $60 million. (La Jolla Light)
- With the goal of making healthy foods available, Project New Village offers food to those living in “food deserts,” areas traditionally shunned by big supermarket chains. It’s a nonprofit, grassroots organization that brings mobile farmers markets to neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity. In addition, community gardens are encouraged as another way to provide produce to the area. (NBC San Diego)
- A proposal to shelter unhoused persons in Balboa Park doesn't sit well with the nonprofit advocate Love Balboa Park, which objects to the shelter in the park program. According to the group, which complained to the planning board, the proposed use is an inappropriate and illegal non-park use. Though the group believes the project is not without merit, it believes placement in Balboa Park is inappropriate. (Times of San Diego)
