SAN DIEGO, CA — Construction work will force a full rail closure between Oceanside and San Diego, the San Diego Association of Governments announced Thursday.

The rail closure will last all day Saturday and affect both the passenger and freight rail service between the Oceanside Transit Station and the Santa Fe Depot Station in Downtown San Diego. Service providers Amtrak, North County Transit District and freight carrier BNSF will all be impacted during the closure.

SANDAG construction crews will work along the Del Mar bluffs to help stabilize the area. The work involves installing steel beams between Ninth and 13th streets and pouring concrete to reinforce the existing piles south of Fourth Street in Del Mar, according to SANDAG. Crews will also conduct pre-construction activities for the Batiquitos Lagoon Double-Track project.

Work will continue through 4:30 a.m. Monday, but rail service is scheduled to resume a normal Sunday schedule.

SANDAG advised nearby residents that the work will involve lights and noise, including noise from large drilling equipment. Increased traffic is expected between the North Torrey Pines State Beach parking lot, Camino Del Mar and Coast Boulevard just north of 15th Street as construction workers access the bluffs.
