Here are the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Title 42 will soon end, and asylum seekers will enter San Diego, waiting to be processed. Religious and nonprofit groups are assisting to provide housing for individuals and families. Interested in hosting a family? To help, contact the Safe Harbors Network. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Seniors and low-income families who face financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic may qualify for aid under the Recovery Action Fund for Tomorrow (RAFT). San Diego County offers $4,000 to families and seniors who qualify. Funds are provided through the American Rescue Plan. Apply at Jewish Family Service website starting May 8. (Patch)
  3. The sound is piercing! It’s called the Hi-Lo system, similar to the sound of sirens found in Europe, and it will alert communities to evacuate in case of wildfires, earthquakes, gas leaks, chemical spills, bomb threats, SWAT standoffs, and other emergencies. The Hi-Lo will be attached to sheriff and police vehicles across the County. So, if you hear a Hi-Lo, it means it's time to go! (La Jolla Light)
