  1. As part of his “Getting It Done” budget, Mayor Todd Gloria earmarked $140 million for road repairs and repaving. If approved, the funds will be spent on 150 miles of streets throughout the city, bringing citizens the high-quality roads they expect and deserve. In addition, funds will be used to address the homeless crisis, for parks and recreations centers, to bring back Smart Streetlights, to support investigations, and to hire additional police. (NBC San Diego)
  2. After hours of comments from both renters and property owners, the San Diego City Council passed an ordinance to protect renters from unjust evictions. If it passes a second vote on May 16, the ordinance will go to the mayor for signature and will go into effect 30 days later. The plan will protect renters and keep them from homelessness. (NBC San Diego)
  3. Walked into a cloud of gnats at the lake area lately? Yuk! An uptick in gnats, midges and other flying pests caused by the wet weather is plaguing areas around the county. Turning off your outside lights a little earlier than usual might help to make your area less attractive to them but, unfortunately, the pests are here to stay until we dry out completely. (CBS8)
  4. Entering the world of the future, the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) resolved to be free of fossil fuels, and to electrify all district infrastructure, bus fleets and maintenance vehicles. In addition, all new buildings will be powered by 100% electric energy. The plan is to achieve net-zero energy throughout the district by 2035. (FOX 5 San Diego)
