- Mayor Todd Gloria proposed a Fiscal Year 2024 budget of $5.12 billion to improve infrastructure, street paving, public safety, as well as funds to shelter unhoused persons under a Safe Sleeping program. The plan would also provide $2.3 million in rental assistance for those at risk of losing their housing. $140 million will be designated for street repair/resurfacing. $38.6 million will go to parks, playgrounds, and green spaces. $2.2 million to fund police and civilian position to support administrative functions. - Is the rising cost of electricity in San Diego tied to EV charging? According to SDG&E, the Department of Energy, and the Utility Consumer’s Action Network (UCAN), the answer is no. Although 100,000 electric vehicles are being charged in San Diego, it can actually have a downward pressure on costs. According to the Department of Energy, heating water heaters and homes draw more electricity than charging an electric vehicle. UCAN cautions that the costs may increase in future as SDG&E invests in analytics, data, infrastructure, and grid upgrades. (CBS News 8)
- Nonprofit developer Community HousingWorks has opened Amanecer Apartments in Linda Vista with 10 units for young adults and 10 units for veterans facing homelessness. Both the county and city each provided $7 million towards the project which cost more than $50 million. Community HousingWorks is currently constructing another housing project which will be developed for low-income seniors and is expected to open Nov. 30, 2023. (FOX 5 San Diego)
