Power Line Sparks Residential Fire In Hillcrest
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 worth of damage.
SAN DIEGO, CA — An errant power line set fire to a shade canopy behind a Hillcrest home early Thursday, causing an estimated $20,000 worth of damage.
The non-injury blaze erupted shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Brookes Terrace, just west of Richmond Street and north of Myrtle Avenue, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Crews were able to confine the flames to the burning awning and had the fire under control within about 15 minutes, the city agency reported.

It was unclear why the electrical line fell onto the backyard structure.
