Here are the top stories in San Diego today:

Public Portion of Crystal Pier
  1. The public portion of the iconic Crystal Pier in San Diego’s Pacific Beach is now closed. The nearly 100-year-old pier is in need of repair after recent storms damaged the outer one-third of the pier’s length. The closed section is owned by the City of San Diego, and it is not known when the beloved pier will be reopened. (NBC7 San Diego)
  2. Through Operation Southern Blaze, participating American Legion Posts, local fire departments, and the nonprofit veteran support group, Convergence, donated a surplus Type-6 Fire truck and other equipment to firefighters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Firefighters in Mexico often do not have money or resources to control fires and this equipment will help them better protect the area. Recipients are grateful for the help received from these organizations. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. Love gardening but want to conserve water? On June 3, 12-2 p.m., you can learn how to use climate-appropriate plantings to create a beautiful water-wise garden. Learn how to use mulch and compost, how to manage irrigation efficiently, and how to utilize soil types to choose plants wisely. Sign up for the free workshop at bit.ly/3K2JU69 (San Diego Reader)

  • SDPD meets kids: "We had an incredible time earlier this week at The Bridge Church's 'Kids Day Event!' Our Southeastern Division Officers brought gifts and toys for the kids and had meaningful conversations about being the future generation and making positive life choices. We also spoke to parents about encouraging and supporting their children. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our community, and we can't wait for the next event!"
