San Diego School Named 2024 National Blue Ribbon School

Only one school in the county was named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024.

SAN DIEGO, CA — One school in San Diego County was named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced Monday.

A total of 356 schools were recognized as 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools, which honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.

"The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools," Cardona said in a statement.

"The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation's students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities," he added. "As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child."

San Diego Unified School District's Sessions Elementary School was named among 33 National Blue Ribbon Schools in California. The recognized schools are among the state's highest performing based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates, according to the California Department of Education.

Sessions Elementary School serves about 430 students in TK through fifth grade in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. The school was recognized for "Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools." These schools excel in narrowing achievement gaps between different student groups and the overall student body.

"It's an honor to recognize our exceptional Blue Ribbon Schools, where academic excellence and support for every student truly shine," State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond said in a statement. "Their commitment to creating an inclusive and outstanding learning environment embodies our mission for education here in California. Their dedication is an inspiration to us all, and we proudly celebrate this remarkable achievement."
