Scooter Battery Explodes, Causing Fire In Backyard Storage Area

A hazardous materials team was called to the scene because of the lithium battery.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A lithium battery on a scooter exploded Wednesday, causing a fire in a backyard storage area at a Clairemont home.

The fire broke out at 2:53 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 3300 block of Ogalala Avenue, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The hoarder conditions in the backyard made it difficult for firefighters, OnScene TV reported.

The fire destroyed the storage area but was stopped before flames reached a boat, the video news service said.
