SAN DIEGO, CA — SeaWorld San Diego is recruiting performers as the theme park prepares for its first-ever Howl-O-Scream attraction this Halloween.

The 24-night series will run from Sept. 17 through Oct. 31, joining the park's annual family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular that takes place during the day, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment said in a news release.

Trick-or-treating, a hay maze, hula hoops, costume parades, and a pumpkin search will jump out to park visitors. By night, fright seekers can visit haunted houses, seven "scare zones" and a macabre mix of creatures roaming the park.

"Guests will howl, scream, and shriek as they escape roaming haunts rampaging through scare zones and seek shelter indoors, only to find they may have stepped upon a haunted house of horrors," a SeaWorld spokesperson told Patch on Monday.

SeaWorld, a 189-acre San Diego institution that launched more than 60 years ago with a focus on marine species, has 12 destinations and regional theme parks around the United States.

Performers Needed

SeaWorld is looking for hundreds of performers to staff the night events by scaring park goers. The park is hosting one-hour auditions for the "Scare Squad" from 5-8 p.m. every Thursday and from 12-5 p.m. every Saturday now through September.

During the audition, applicants will be asked to do exercises that showcase their skills to startle, scare, and make guests scream, according to a news release. Experience is not required.

The selected characters should like to frighten people "in a fun way," the release said. Makeup artists and the park's costume design team will help turn up the fear factor for these hires.

New hires will get free park admission and parking along with park tickets for friends and family and discounts on items sold at SeaWorld. Interested applicants can secure their audition spot by applying online.
