Student Wounded, Another Arrested In Stabbing At San Diego Area High School

A male student walked into a classroom and stabbed a female student multiple times before leaving the room, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A student was stabbed and another was arrested Wednesday at San Ysidro High School, authorities said.

A male student walked into a classroom and stabbed a female student multiple times before leaving the room, according to the San Diego Police Department. The attack happened shortly after 9 a.m. at the campus at 5353 Airway Road in San Diego.

"The school was immediately put on lockdown and the San Diego Police Department was called," Lt. Cesar Jimenez said in a news release. "SDPD responded to the high school within five minutes and began conducting a search of the campus."

Officers took a person of interest on the campus into custody around 10:45 a.m. He was later determined to be the suspect after a knife and clothing worn during the stabbing were found in his possession, Jimenez said.

The victim, believed to be around 15 or 16 years old, was taken to a hospital. Her injuries were considered non-life threatening.

The names of the suspect and victim were not released.

"This was an isolated incident and there are no further threats to campus," Jimenez said.

No other injuries were reported, and the lockdown has since been lifted. Parents can pick up their children at the school library if they wish but instruction has returned to its usual schedule.
