These CA Cities Are Among Nation's Worst To Drive In: Report

One city in the Golden State ranked as America's worst city to drive in, according to a study by Forbes Advisor.

CALIFORNIA — California is home to beautiful beaches and gorgeous weather — but also crowded roadways. That's why it's no surprise that several cities in the Golden State ranked among the worst to drive in, according to a new report by Forbes Advisor. One city, in fact, topped the list.

Oakland ranked as America's worst city to drive in, according to the study.

Forbes Advisor compared the 47 most populated cities with available data across 15 metrics spanning four key categories: driving experience, safety, cost of car ownership and access to car maintenance.

Oakland topped the ranking due to the city's high number of fatal car crashes, steep gas prices and long average commute times, according to the study. The city also ranked second-worst overall for the cost of car ownership, as well as ninth overall for driving experience.

After Oakland, Miami, Florida, ranked as the next worst city to drive in, followed by San Francisco, California; Houston, Texas; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

San Francisco was the second California city to make the list because drivers not only pay the highest gas prices among the cities analyzed, but also face slow commute times, according to the study. The city also ranked sixth-worst overall for the cost of car ownership, as well as seventh overall for driving experience.

San Diego, which took the 42nd spot, ranked as the best city in California to drive in, according to the report. Raleigh, North Carolina, ranked as the overall best city to drive in, with good scores for safety, driving experience, and cost of car ownership.
